I love this idea! But HOLY CRAP! I looked through my iPod for a song for Nola....I came out with songs for characters that aren't even mine!
Okay, here they are, but before I give them too you, you should REALLY listen to them all, cause they're amazing. They're some of my favorite songs, so I'll give you guys links.
For Nola I picked two. The first is "Hey Man Nice Shot" by Filter. Now this song is slow, but sharp. Think Jazz mixed in with rock and razors on metal strings. It's lyrics are apathetic and accusatory (though nothing specific stands out, which reminded me of Nola before she stepped up as a doctor.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SZblBbM_FM"Eyes on Fire" by Blue Foundation is the second song for Nola. It's also slow, semi jazz like, but instead of being mixed with harsh rock and roll, it's mixed with eerie violins and has a Gothic touch. A woman sings threats and apathetic comments to someone. It's mostly the music that reminds me of Nola, not the lyrics. But the entire song itself makes me think of a darkness in Nola, the kind everyone buries, but it always stays there.....

For Lidium I have two. "Fully Alive" by Flyleaf, is the first. It's about someone who is talking about someone else named Layla, and how the person speaking feels guilty over complaining when Layla's suffered so much. It's really more the music and tone of the song (about guilt and suffering) that reminds me of her more than anything. The opening lyrics keep calling her to mind:
"Telling Layla's story spoken
'Bout how all her bones are broken
Hammers fall on all the pieces
Two months in the cover creases"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d3RYW0YoEk&feature=av2e"Make Damn Sure" by Taking Back Sunday actually reminds me actually of Lidium AND what will be her future relationship with Boone. It's about a dysfunctional but strong relationship between two people and I keep thinking it'd be from both Lidium and Boone's POV. These lyrics are what catch my attention:
"You've got this new head filled up with smoke
I've got my veins all tangled close
To the jukebox bars you frequent
The safest place to hide
A long night spent with your most obvious weakness
You start shaking at the thought you are everything I want
'Cause you are everything I'm not"
And
"I'm gonna make damn sure that you can't ever leave
No, you won't ever get too far from me
You won't ever get too far from me
I'll make damn sure that you can't ever leave
No, you won't ever get too far from me
You won't ever get too far from me
You won't ever get too far from me (ever get too far)
You won't ever get too far..."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34JXz1r8riQFor Ray I have one."The Noose" by A Perfect Circle fits perfectly, I think, for Ray and what he feels about Richard. It's a song about this guy who is plotting to get revenge on this other guy (who everyone thinks is perfect and and saintly) by revealing how corrupt he is. These lyrics are what catch my attention:
"So glad to see you well, overcome them
Completely silent now
With heaven's help
You've cast your demons out
And not to pull your halo down
Around your neck and tug you off your cloud
But I'm more than just a little curious
How you're plannin' to go about makin' your amends
To the dead
To the dead"

For my other character Kell I have one song."Cells" by The Servant reminds me of Kell because it always paints a picture of this really cocky city slicker stuck in life. He's stuck in his job, feels under appreciated, and seems to be mixed up with the wrong crowd, but he still goes at it, as cocky as ever, never wavering.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZ7Zn8Ns_fg"On the city's skin they move on mass
Like a rash on the back of a manky cat
Now in I go like a fool
I can't resist dipping in the pool
I watch them watch me I watch them too
Across the street across the room
I dress myself like a charcoal sketch
My eyes are brown and my hair's a mess
They annoy me those who employ me
They could destroy me
They should enjoy me
We eat chinese off our knees
And look for each other in the TV screen
The sun goes up and the sun goes down
I drag myself into the town
All I do I want to do with you
Everyday I'm at my desk
At my desk I'm like the rest
All I do I want to do with you
The sun goes up..."
THEME SONGS FOR THE ENTIRE FAYZ SITUATION
I have three songs that always remind me of gone when I hear them.
"Closer" by Kings of Leon is the BEST of these. In fact, I heard it on youtube while watching a GONE fan trailer. The lyrics speak for themselves:
"Stranded in this spooky town
Stoplights are swaying and the phone lines are down
This floor is crackling cold
She took my heart, I think she took my soul
With the moon I run
Far from the carnage of the fiery sun
Driven by the strangled vein
Showing no mercy I do it again
Open up your eye
You keep on crying, baby
I’ll bleed you dry
The skies are blinking at me
I see a storm bubbling up from the sea
And it's coming closer
And it's coming closer
You, shimmy shook my bone
Leaving me stranded all in love on my own
What do you think of me
Where am I now? Baby where do I sleep
Feel so good but I'm old,
2000 years of chasing taking its toll"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hyrAmcGt-E"Hero" by All Insane Kids reminds me more of the kids themselves, and how many struggle to do the right thing even when scared and lost.
"As you're on your way back home.
Something catch your eyes untold
Fear of darkness lingers here
You tremble as you get the fear!
Now you on the corner stone
Fearing you'd be left alone
Who will lose who will prevail?
Who will tell the final tale?
There it goes again
Do you know what it take's to be a hero?
When you lost, a piece of love, a piece of you.
Do you have what it takes to beat the fear that's
In your heart, to grow up strong, and redo wrong.
To grow up strong, and undo wrong.
You're walking down that well worn road
Some things changed but who would know
The smiles you get a poisoned well
The colour you once knew is killed
And, as you realize what's wrong
The dirt under you're feet is gone
The enemy looks in your eyes
Now is time to make it right!
You better make it right!
Do you know what it take's to be a hero?
When you lost, a piece of love, a piece of you.
Do you have what it takes to beat the fear that's
In your heart, to grow up strong, and undo wrong.
To grow up strong, and undo wrong.
What it takes to be a hero
To grow up strong and undo wrong"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqasYryLFtw"C'mon C'mon" by the Von Bondies is the last song, and it really reminds me of the violence and chaos of the FAYZ and how it affects the kids.
"On another day c'mon c'mon
With these ropes I tied can we do no wrong
Now we grieve cause now is gone
Things were good when we were young
With my teeth locked down I can see the blood
Of a thousand men who have come and gone
Now we grieve cause now is gone
Things were good when we were young
Is it safe to say? (c'mon c'mon)
Was it right to leave? (c'mon c'mon)
Will I ever learn? (c'mon c'mon)
(c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon)
As I make my way c'mon c'mon
These better nights that seem too long
Now we grieve cause now is gone
Things were good when we were young
With my teeth locked down I can see the blood
Of a thousand men who have come and gone
Now we grieve cause now is gone
Things were good when we were young
Is it safe to say? (c'mon c'mon)
Was it right to leave? (c'mon c'mon)
Will I never learn? (c'mon c'mon)
(c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon)
Is it safe to say? (c'mon c'mon)
Was it right to leave? (c'mon c'mon)
Will I never learn? (c'mon c'mon)
(c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon)
And know this day these deepened wounds don't heal so fast
Can't hear me croon of a million lies that speak no truth
Of a time gone by that now is through"
